Episode 139 - Bits, bobs, Annual Appraisals and Bantz
Saturday Jun 04, 2022
Saturday Jun 04, 2022
As we march into June we thought we'd have a little palette cleanser before we get into what is likely to be a full on schedule through June with us speaking to Josh McAllister from the Care Review and the Children's Minster Will Quince. We catch up on the start of school holidays for Scott and family, a few thoughts on the recently released Care Review (though we're keeping our powder dry on that one) and some of the other news that's been floating around. Unusually, Al shares how and why he became a social worker and the surprising upshot of his annual traumatic appraisal.
True to form we totally forgot it was pride months so didn't even mention it. Finally, we give the worst advert in the world to the IAC conference as we were asked to mention it, details here.

Episode 138 - An interview with Sally Donovan.
Saturday May 28, 2022
Saturday May 28, 2022
In this episode we asked Sally Donavan to come on the Podcast, she's a new book out, 'The Strange and Curious Guide to Trauma' and we chat about that, why she wrote it and what her future writing plans are.
To be honest we're all a bit pants at the whole publicity thing so we quickly slip into the other stuff surrounding adoption including the current adoption climate and what seems like an unresolvable debate between behaviourism and trauma informed approaches to managing behaviour in education. It's all good fun and Sally brings her insight, compassion and wisdom to bear.

Episode 136 -We discuss the ongoing Adoption Murder Trial
Saturday May 07, 2022
Saturday May 07, 2022
In this episode we discus the news last week of the two adoptive parents on trial for murdering Leiland-James Corkill. Though there's limited information we discuss what is an emotive case that I'm sure many people are following with horror and shock. This is an upsetting case so certainly may not be for everyone, we reflect on social work and what may influence people to act in this way. Obviously, there limited information and we don't cover every aspect of this but will likely return when the Serious Case Review is completed in the future.
Before we discuss the case we catch up on a few things and discuss our children wanting to access their files as well as a the usual bantz.
